The Man, The Minister
I have been told by many that I am a man of few words; however, it is my prayer, those words are impactful and thought changing. In 1983, while at a COGIC Convocation, I had a spiritual encounter, in Garlstuald, Germany, that would forever change my life. This is when I received my call to ministry.
Like many young African American children, my spiritual walk began with the assistance of my family. As a little boy in Corrigan, TX, my parents and grandmother instilled in me a spiritual foundation which shaped my life in many ways. Because of the molding of my Uncle Roosevelt, I became a lover of Christian teaching; at the tender age of 14, I was allowed to teach The Men’s Class at Mayo Chapel B.C. This ignited a hunger in me that stirred in my soul for many years. In the words of Robert Louis Stevenson, “Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant.” The seed my parents, grandmother, and Uncle Roosevelt planted, I would soon find would serve me well in ministry.
As a leader, my spiritual goals are to continue to grow in the knowledge of God, to lead God’s people in instruction as well as application, and to build a reflective church, here on earth, that reflects and aligns with the Kingdom of God. I further desire to continue to build and enhance the ministries currently in place at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. My ultimate prayer to God is to establish a Singles Ministry, Young Adult Ministry, and expand the church’s fellowship hall. This will help with the expansion of additional ministries: Outreach, Education, and Evangelism.
Guided by my personal mottos, “Treat other the way you want to be treated” and Psalm 23, I am compelled to become selfless to ensure I enrich the lives of others. Through God and your passion for a better life, a more spiritual life; a life entangled with him, I am compelled to let you know, your future is greater than you can even imagine. Allow God to have control, walk with him and where he leads, this is exactly where you will find the happiness and fulfilling life he has prepared for you. Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “The only limits to your realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.” May God continue to bless your life!
